After the cowardly Hamlin County Commissioners denied a lawfully submitted petition for a special election on hand counting ballots, the people filed over a dozen complaints with the Sheriff. Sheriff Schlotterbeck’s response is indicative of yet another pervasive problem in South Dakota. Failure to Protect and Defend.
This was on the primary ballot in 3 counties.
voters in each county rejected hand counting.
The auditors don’t want to hand count.
The voters don’t want to hand count.
The legislature doesn’t want to hand count. (Even with new leadership they won’t)
Is hand counting bad? No but if the commissioners, the legislature and voters don’t want it then what is the next strategy?
