South Dakota ethanol producers spent over two million dollars on campaign in favor of RL21
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- Campaign spending reports demonstrate a “David and Goliath” scenario on Referred Law 21.
South Dakota ethanol producers are throwing their support behind the law – passed by this year’s legislature to deal with a proposed carbon capture pipeline.
Pipeline opponent Ed Fischbach says so far, the ethanol companies have contributed more than two-million dollars.
Despite being heavily outspent, Fischbach says he’s upbeat about the chances of defeating RL 21.
RL-21 is the so-called “Landowner Bill of Rights” passed by this year’s legislature.
Pipeline opponent Ed Fischbach calls the high-dollar contributions obscene.
Pipeline supporters say RL 21 offers reimbursement and landowner protections from the pipeline company.
They say the pipeline is likely to be built with or without RL 21.
This was a law Kristi Noem said she would repeal when she was elected governor. She has never followed through on it. Corporate contributions need to end.
