“How many legislators and local politicians would tell you to hold them accountable the way Mykala Voita District 21 Senate does here? Too many times, I see the opposite: they bully, intimidate and gaslight instead. A true public servant isn’t afraid of being held accountable by their constituents.” – Katie Hoffmann

Its been a busy and exciting last couple of weeks preparing for the start of session coming up in January.
Pre-Session meetings with many different groups and individuals have been very informational, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning more specific needs and challenges across District 21, and South Dakota as a whole.
In hopes of being prepared to the best of my ability to hit the ground running at the start of session, I’ve utilized the opportunity to attend several trainings and informational meetings. One of these meetings was the Hazlitt Policy Summit hosted in Nashville by Young Americans for Liberty. Much of the connections made and what I learned will be utilized as we navigate through this legislative session to make bold, wise decisions that protect the people and advance and preserve our constitutional rights. See the photo included of other legislators from South Dakota who were able to attend this meeting- we have some great people serving our state.
If you haven’t seen already, the House and Senate committee assignments for 2025-2026 have been released! I have been assigned to the Senate appropriations committee and will be working diligently to be a watchdog of our taxpayer money and bring problem solving skills and transparency to the table.
I will close with a couple of requests of you, dear reader. Please let me know what the most effective way of keeping you, as a constituent, informed would be. Newspaper, email updates, posts or videos, or a mailed newsletter? An informed electorate is powerful. Also, please hold every elected official accountable as this session starts. Do our campaign speeches and comments at cracker barrels line up with the bills each one of us sponsors, along with our votes in committee and on the floor? Please do not just listen to words, but keep note of actions. This is how we know who is truly for the people come election season, and who is just a great silver tongued talker.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. I know I will be taking time to sit in awe of every blessing that has been given from the Good Lord above, and I hope you have the opportunity to do the same.
May God bless and keep each one of you,
-Senator Elect Mykala Voita
